In Las Vegas

I’m in Las Vegas on the way to San Jose. This must be one of the strangest places on Earth with the slot machines, the smokers gas chambers, and things that look good from a distance and cheesy at a closer look.

McCarran Las Vegas airport

My plane was 45 minutes early (go Southwest!) and I found the Internet addicts paradise at the McCarran airport. Between gates 23 and 24 you’ll be able to seat on a chair, plug your computer, and use free WiFi. Check it out!

BlogHer is ready for me. Am I ready for BlogHer?

I'm going to BlogHer!BlogHer, the conference “where the women bloggers are” is finally here; I am leaving for the Bay tomorrow. I am so nervous!! The conference is sold out: and there are so many people that I have been waiting to meet… I will try to leave home my usual conference-shy self and being sociable. I know it will be worthwhile.

If you are going to BlogHer come and say hi. I am the middle-age girl with the really crazy curly hair.

Go to work each day as it were your last day (aka Steve Job’s conspiracy)

This post is about getting happier at work, the surprising effects of physical exercise, and the spirit of Steve Jobs channeled through my iPod.

For a couple of days I’ve had this idea buzzing in my head with the obnoxious persistence of a silly tune. The thought was to write a post about going to work each day as it were your last day.

No, I don’t mean going to your boss and telling him what a @#%@ he is, or arriving to work at noon, half naked, and intoxicated (after all, chances are that even if it’s your last day at your current job, you may still want to work in the future). What I mean is learning how to focus on the important things and let go of the minor actions that clutter your work day because you “gotta do them” or are good for your career.

With this idea still stuck in my head, yesterday I went to the gym, I put my headphones on, and cranked my iPod up. After Madonna’s Ray of light, guess what the next shuffled mp3 in my queue was? Yup, Steve Job’s commencement speech at Stanford.

What’s the matter with Antonella?

I know, I know, I’ve been missing for almost a month from my blog. Don’t worry, I am still here. It’s summer, I am catching up with my sleep, thinking about my future, reading, savoring the World Cup victory but mostly obsessing over what Marco Materazzi might have said to Zinédine Zidane (some speculations here; more on Zidane here and here), so that I can avoid panicking over the situation in the Middle East, and fantasizing about the Blogher conference, which is waiting for me in San Jose in less than two weeks.

You’ll hear from me very soon. Until then, have a good summer, and behave.
