Pete, the oldest gorilla at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, and one of the oldest western lowland gorillas in North America, died 2 days ago. He was 50 years old and had been in Woodland Park since 1969. He was the great great-grandfather of Yola, the youngest gorilla at the zoo.
I had the privilege to spend several hours in his majestic and gentle presence and I drew him many times. Lots of love, Pete, I’ll miss you.
