Climate Strike: Oceans are risings and so are we

Today more than 2000 demonstrations were held worldwide to demand climate action. The demonstrations were inspired by Swedish student Greta Thunberg, who started a school strike for the climate in August 2018 before the Swedish elections; after the elections, she continued to strike for the climate every Friday. On March 13, Greta has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

In Seattle, hundreds of young people and climate activists gathered at Cal Anderson Park and spoke about their experience of climate change and their fear for their future. They spoke about their frustration at not being taken seriously and being patronized for their concerns about the climate; they recognized that climate change hurts those who are poor and already face racism and discrimination the hardest, and that we need to address climate justice.

Speakers voiced their support for the Green New Deal and pledged to demand Washington state politicians to support the proposal (as of today neither representative Maria Cantwell nor representative Patty Murray have expressed support for the Green New Deal).
